MY THOUGHTS
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
A strong local economy that creates opportunities close to home.
A thriving Saanich needs places where people can work, build a business and earn a living. Local shops, farms, trades, professional services and creative businesses all contribute to our community.
With my Bachelor of Commerce, and background in accounting and business operations, I understand that rising costs, delays and uncertainty affect whether a business can succeed. Municipal government has a role in making processes clear, maintaining reliable infrastructure and planning spaces where businesses can operate.
What I would work toward
- Clearer permit and approval processes, with understandable requirements and timely communication
- Protecting space for employment and considering how development affects existing businesses
- Supporting neighbourhood commercial areas where residents can shop and access services close to home
- Working with businesses on recurring concerns such as property crime, access, parking and construction disruption
- Supporting local agriculture, markets, arts and events that bring people into our community
- Building relationships with regional partners and post-secondary institutions to explore opportunities for skilled employment and business growth
Economic development should strengthen the community around it. I want opportunities that provide good jobs, support local entrepreneurs and respect our neighbourhoods and natural spaces.
How this connects to my priorities
Families First includes opportunities to earn a living close to home. Community Driven means listening to business owners, workers and residents. Responsible Leadership means addressing practical barriers and evaluating whether municipal investments deliver lasting public value.
